The farm went from father to son since the 15th century. The people were farmers like almost all of them. They lived of the cows and what they found nearby or in the woods. Sometimes the farmer was out fishing herring.

The Heradstveit farms are long from civilization which was unfortunately till there came modern communication with roads and cars. It was a long way to school and wanted one to go to the church it was a tour through the forrest to Vikøy. This way has been used in ages and is still in use through a varied landscape. The stabbur is the oldest building on the farm. Now the house is in use as a museum and is a hiding place for everything that belongs to the farm and the generations through time.

About the herberge

This old house on thick greystones is build with solid wood. During the restauration in 2007 all the rooms were modernised and we installed a professional kitchen. We kept the nice wooden walls and doors so the there is still the traditional atmosphere. The potatobasement changed to toiletts and babycare. The bakingbasement went into a livingroom.
Big or small, we want everybody to feel at home with us.

In 2005 she decided to start a turistcompany and hired the main building on the farm. She has always liked to cook for big groups and she thinks it’s funny to share this with her guests.
